Clean Energy - Energy Storage
In 2017, three different organizations were merged into Alberta Innovates, which continues to run the funding programs the three subsidiary organizations managed under the health innovation, bio sector, and clean energy program names (there is a fourth program called cross-sectoral investments as well).
Alberta Innovates 'Clean Energy' funding program is intended to "serve as a catalyst for the development of innovative, integrated ways to convert Alberta’s natural resources into market-ready, environmentally sustainable management of Alberta’s water resources". There are three main focus areas: renewables and emerging technology; energy technologies; and water and environmental management.
The 'Clean Energy - Energy Storage' program is oriented toward energy storage projects that enable broader utilization of intermittent renewable energy.
